When Anna Shepard was researching hypnotherapy to stop adult thumb sucking for The Times newspaper, she contacted Sandra at The Hypnotherapy Centre in Windsor to discuss how hypnosis could help eradicate this unwanted habit.

She also spoke with Orthodontist Neil Counihan about the dental problems that can arise from thumb sucking.  He explained that the problem is that it exerts great pressure in the mouth, causing or exacerbating dental problems.  And persistent adult thumb-suckers and finger-suckers are unlikely to escape damaging their teeth.

But it is important to wait until someone is ready to lose the habit – that is, it must be a conscious decision and positive desire to quit the habit.
