Public Speaking
Does speaking in public fill you with dread?
If it does, then you are not alone, as fear of speaking in public is one of the most frequently cited phobias amongst adults in the UK. Many of us would like to avoid it, but if we wish to achieve anything meaningful in our work or private lives we will often need to speak to groups.
Fortunately speaking in public need not be stressful. For most purposes, being able to talk in a natural, conversational style will be good enough. You don’t need to be perfect to succeed, usually being yourself is good enough. Another important thing to remember, is that nothing catastrophic will occur when speaking in public. You may not have the perfect delivery, but generally your audience will want you to succeed and will feel sympathetic towards you if you make a mistake. Hypnotherapy, through the use of appropriate direct suggestion and powerful imagery techniques, can help you to truly believe in yourself as an effective public speaker.
Often when people are new to public speaking they become concerned if the feel ‘edgy’ or apprehensive when they are asked top speak and frequently report perspiring or a slight tremor. This is the body’s natural response to what the mind perceives as a stressful situation. Hypnotherapy can help you to control and harness this natural response to add vitality and sparkle to your speaking.
For most people therapy for public speaking will take place over four to six sessions, with approximately a week between each session although this can be varied to suit individual requirements.
